RECREATION- As this year’s chairman, I have organized the outings listed below to have fun, learn, challenge the mind and tantalize the tastebuds.

If you have any interest in outings to the new Rivers Casino, to see "Million Dollar Quartet," or the annual Navy Pier Garden Show (March 10-18), call or e-mail Cathy Sporleder (info in your club directory).

CHOCOLATE TOUR - Do you consider chocolate one of the major food groups???  Join us on Tuesday, February 21, 11:00 a.m. at the Long Grove Confectionery Tour and Outlet Store in Buffalo Grove (followed by lunch at nearby Lou Malnati's).  Cost is $2.00 per person for 1-hour tour (lunch cost on your own).  Give Cathy Sporleder a heads up if you are interested.

BLAST FROM THE PAST - Join us at the Metropolis in Arlington Heights for an evening of legendary big band music with the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, playing their hits like "Moonlight Serenade" and "In the Mood."  6 tickets have been purchased by Cathy ($40 each) with more available.  Don't miss this outing on Tuesday, March 27, 7:30 p.m. Contact Cathy ASAP to reserve your ticket (first-come/first-served).

Annual "Pick the Winners Oscar Contest": Nominations for the Academy Awards were announced January 24 and will be given out on February 26.  Official ballots will be available at the February general meeting.  Deadline to get your selections to Catherine Brodnan is midnight on Saturday, February 25.  Let's all get out there and see some movies!  Prizes and bragging rights will be yours if you're the winner!

BOOK CLUB: Be part of the next series, which begins in February.  This is round-robin style, no formal discussions.  Everyone chooses 1 book, reads it in a 3-week time frame, then passes it on to the next person.  You get a different book in return.  Contact Marlene Bellamy to become part of the rotation.

BOWLING: Join us every Thursday through April at 9:30 a.m. at Deer Park Brunswick on Rand Road, just north of Quentin.  Come when you can to bowl for less than $2 per game, or just be part of the "lunch bunch" afterward.  Contact Marlene Bellamy for more information.

BRIDGE: We meet the 4th Tuesday of the month at 1:00 p.m.  Call Nancy Heggem for information.  The group is also looking for names of willing bridge substitutes!

DOMINOES: Join us on the 1st Monday each month at a member's home.  Future dates are February 6, March 5, April 2, May 7, and June 4.  Summer dates to be determined.  For more information, call or e-mail Sandy Ward.

Golf- Catherine Brodnan 

This year’s season finishes on Thurs. Sept. 29 with a final round and lunch at Schaumburg Golf Course/Restaurant.  8 ladies have hit various links in the area throughout the summer. 2012 season will begin 1st Thursday in May, weather willing.

 

Bowling- Marlene Bellamy 

Thurs. mornings, 9:30 beginning Thurs. Oct. 6 at Brunswick Bowl in Deer Park, Rand Rd. just south of Quentin.  Please arrive by 9:15 so we can begin promptly at 9:30. Bowl  up to 3 games less than $2/game plus shoe rental if needed.  Lunch follows at local restaurant.  You are welcome to skip bowling and join the lunch bunch.

 

PWC Afternoon Movie Group – Catherine Brodnan

Greetings movie buffs!  We will be restarting our Afternoon Movie Group the end of this month!!  Join us on Wednesday, September 28, at the Arlington Theater in downtown Arlington Heights for a matinee and an early dinner afterward (for those who can stay).  Exact title and show time will be emailed to everyone the Friday (9-23) before.  Those without email can call Catherine Brodnan for the info.  Hope to see you there.

 

Book Club- Marlene Bellamy 

Last year’s book group organized the end of August.  Next session will be in February. Watch winter newsletter for organizational information.

 

Mexican Train Dominoes- Sandy Ward 

Group will be meeting Mon. Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. to determine monthly schedule for the upcoming year.  They meet at a member’s house on a predetermined day and time that works for all interested. Monthly participation is flexible. Interested players should contact Sandy for details.

 

Bridge- Nancy Heggem 

Meets at a member’s house on the 4th Tues. of the month, 1 p.m.  New regular or substitute players are welcome.
